A Georgia teenager has been accepted into a prestigious HBCU at just 13 years old.
According to 11 Alive, Johsua Suddith, a 13-year-old student at Hills Academy in Conyers, Georgia, received an acceptance letter from Morehouse College, his dream school since he was four.
Joshua is no stranger to making early academic achievements. His mother, Chaundra, who described the teen as a "miracle from the beginning, underwent in-utero surgery to ensure his safe delivery at just 19 weeks pregnant. As a nine-month-old, Joshua began talking. At 18 months, he was reading, and Joshua wrote his first book at age three.
The teenager has skipped multiple grades, jumping from second to fifth, then to seventh, and later to 11th. He received over 20 college acceptances from institutions such as Miles College, Shaw University, Tennessee State University, and Jackson State University at just 12 years old. Joshua is currently dual-enrolled at Augusta Technical College, where he has completed 27 credit hours with a 3.88 GPA.
Joshua knew he wanted to attend Morehouse College at just four years old when he learned that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. had attended the school at 15.
Now at 13, Joshua has plans to study international relations at King's alma mater.
“His grit and determination are the most impressive things about him,” Chaundra said. “He didn’t let challenges get in the way of his dream.”
Family members said Joshua will defer his enrollment for one year to finish high school and then commute to Morehouse.
"As my namesake, Joshua, truly makes me proud. I pray he always keeps God first," his father, Joshua Sr., said.
