The White House has added a new section to its website defending the Trump administration's controversial demolition of the East Wing, per The Hill.
The new section appeared on the website's "About the White House page" on Thursday (October 23) amid the construction of a ballroom attached to the presidential residence. The page now features a historical timeline outlining major renovations and additions to the building, beginning with the creation of the West Wing under President Theodore Roosevelt in 1902.
The timeline goes on to highlight other milestones such as the addition of the Oval Office, Rose Garden, East Wing, Briefing Room, and tennis pavilion, as well as the Truman-era reconstruction of the White House interior. However, the site takes an apparent swipe at former Democratic presidents, including Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, and Joe Biden. The section mentions Clinton's affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky, Obama’s 2012 meeting with then–Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi, a member of the Muslim Brotherhood, and a 2023 incident in which cocaine was found in the West Wing while Biden was president.
The page also references Biden’s decision to recognize Transgender Day of Visibility, which in 2024 coincided with Easter Sunday, and the administration’s Pride Month celebration at the White House.
Construction of the new ballroom began this week with the demolition of part of the East Wing. White House officials said the addition is expected to be completed before Trump’s term ends in January 2029.
